Empowering Bhutanese Youth for a Brighter Future
UPSHIFT Bhutan is a transformative youth skills development programme designed to equip adolescents and young people (ages 9–24) with 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Introduced in Bhutan in 2022, UPSHIFT quickly scaled from a pilot in 65 schools and 10 youth centres to a nationwide initiative reaching 27,723 young people across 264 schools in 20 districts. The programme was launched under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Ashi Chimi Yangzom Wangchuck, Vice President of Bhutan Youth Development Fund, and is implemented through strong partnerships with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development.
Bhutan is undergoing major education reforms, from the launch of National Education Policy to the Education Technology Framework, which emphasize technology and life skills. UPSHIFT complements these reforms by fostering entrepreneurial mindsets and mental well-being, preparing youth for future careers and active citizenship.
To bring UPSHIFT to every school in Bhutan, creating an ecosystem where young people can thrive as innovators and changemakers. Together with the government and civil society, we aim to ensure a vibrant blend of youth creativity and community wisdom.
UPSHIFT Bhutan is more than a programme—it's a movement to empower youth, strengthen communities, and build a future of opportunity and innovation.
